Select Board Meeting Minutes 8/16/10
Monterey Select Board
Minutes of the meeting of 8/16/10

Meeting Opened at: 4:21pm
Select Board Members Present: Wayne Burkhart, acting Chairperson and Scott Jenssen
Also in attendance for parts of the meeting:  Sue Protheroe for the Monterey News and Michael Storch

The board met with Director of Operations, Maynard Forbes to review the following items:
1.  Scott asked if some of the torn flags on the poles on Main Rd could be replaced.  M. Forbes noted that all of them will be coming down at the end of August and next year the torn ones will be replaced.
2.  A week from Wed. M. Forbes will be going to Boston Department of Transportation to meet regarding the RT. 23 project and $100k STRAP grant.  M. Storch will be attending with Maynard.
3.  Scott inquired about the culvert ditches on Fairview Rd, M. Forbes stated they were cleaned out 3 weeks ago.

The board met with Inter-Departmental Secretary, Melissa Noe to review the following items:
1.  Weekly report was reviewed.

Miscellaneous Select Board Items Reviewed:
1.  The minutes from 8.9.10 were approved as written.
2.  A letter from the FWMH was received stating their confusion with the driveway construction being placed on hold.  They are requesting a specific date when the work will begin prior to their next meeting of 8/19.  This was put on hold to discuss next week when there is a full Board.
3.  A request from KSA to change their special one day alcohol permit from beer and wine only to all alcohol was reviewed by the Board.  It was confirmed with Town Counsel and the ABCC that MGL states that local licensing authorities may issue special licenses for the sale of wines and/or malt beverages to a responsible manager of any indoor or outdoor activity or enterprise (for profit or non-profit). Special licenses for the sale of all alcoholic beverages may be issued to non-profit organizations only.  Since KSA is not a not for profit organization a letter will be written denying the request.
4.  The Board agreed to waive the fee for the Monterey School building permit submitted for repairs to the roof.
5.  A new flag has been ordered for the flagpole at the Town Hall at the request of the Town Clerk.  Scott will hang it.

A motion was made and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting at: 4:53pm
